"Life is immersed by Rhythm." - Erick May,2012
The one key to the way a project of this magnitude needs is time management. As discussed in my last blog, the time that I tried to teach was a failure. But as I look back, it was just a plain learning experience. I may have knocked down that predicament by making an agenda. There may be times where my schedule for the day may be booked and I have no time but that also depended on how many students signed up.
In order to increase time and effectiveness, I realized that not everybody can be taught. There has to be some cut backs if it gets crowded. There are no real simple answers to solve this problem. Hopefully, the rejected students will find it in their own time to practice on their own as I have. All they have to do is find the rhythm of their lessons: when can they do it and how often?
The research I have done is helpful too. I forgot about the rudiments of drumming and how important it is for learning how to play. In order to get a drummers heart, there has to be a sense of rhythm It was always about rhythm and learning how to control it. It's all on the wrists. As soon as the end of the rhythm fades out; however, there is nothing one can do. The beat has ended just like a heart. There is always hope for those I have taught. These are the people who will continue on playing the rhythm but at their own pace and time. This way, rhythm never dies and lives forever.

Next time...
I decided that this semester was a somewhat failure. This is the only the beginning however. The problems with this time around is that the people I have chosen are not very efficient when it came to academic work. I threw them away because they were not doing well. It was also a fail in my part. I also couldn't handle the amount of work school held me. The problem was that there was not enough time to do everything I wanted. I'm going to do things differently next time around. I decided to cut back on the students I teach and the number of days I teach them. This is the only solution I could come up with. If there are any ideas, I would take them without hesitation. Take in mind that this is to help me teach more to learn and prosper.

Hiatus
Lately, there has been a trend that i began to follow that has made me too busy. I started doing poorly in my job to teach due to the fact that I don't have any extra time. Poor defined as not teaching anyone. There were sacrifices that had to be made. To teach others or to pick up my grades.
It would be hypocritical of me not to take the lessons of my posts. So I went into a hiatus in order to pick up my grades. As explained in my last blog, it is important in the learning of drums but it is only a privilege to do so. Currently, I am working on papers and finishing up my work in a complete way.(Quality of the work is not important right now.)
Of course, there is another lesson to be learned from this. The importance of the teacher doing well. It is a necessity for the teacher to do well in whatever conflicts there are in his life. It could be from doing homework to experiencing an emotional breakdown. This could affect the learning of the students because they are learners. If they know their teacher can't handle work, then they would find it as an excuse to also do it. I know this personally. So right now, I am in a hiatus until my situation gets better.

The Set Up

I have been meaning to point out the 1st set up of my students. There are differences in where they like to angle the cymbal or the way they place a snare as shown by the two pictures. The start is not only an important part of development but also shows the change in one's set. Just as one changes from being Liberal to Socialist. How did one get from point A to point B. Obviously, these set ups are going to change. They may move a couple things but nothing major since they seem comfortable playing as is. Once one realizes that it is a long journey they have experienced, they will be glad they have had lessons. It is like a sense of seeing a yearbook 20 years after one graduates. The feeling that one receives is special. Special in the fact that they are glad they did it and want to do other things. This effect is what I'm trying to get at. Once I started playing drums and got the sense of it, I wanted to learn other things and in fact, I am learning the piano. The effects and magnitude of it!

New Addition
The marvelous truth of organization and the importance of this whole learning process is not just to learn. I already established that in my previous blogs but I would like to get deeper in depth. When I say that, I mean one step further as I am still trying to figure out the truer purpose of this project.
With this said, I would to introduce the new addition of my teachings: the Snare! Of course it is part of the drum kit but the snare has it's special characteristics and require less coordination than the kit. This will be the starting point of all my students. The snare is mostly practiced by marching and drum corps which is my dream to be in one.
So in other words, I want to broaden my teachings. It is not always about the kit. The main focus of my project is to encourage, discipline [in my last blog], and organize. The fact that they are playing the drum kit isn't really essential so from now on, it is about what the person wants to learn. It is also a form of Freedom given to all my students. Freedom!

Penalties: New Era
Nothing is more important than playing. NOT! The most important is to focus on more important things. When I talk about "things," i like to specify it as jobs, college applications, homework, etc. Lately, there has been a decline in student work as they are doing poorly in their main tasks and don't realize that what they, my students, are learning is a side "job." So, in order to combat this, I came up with the plan to not teach them. Ultimately, this will have consequences on their learning. So, this is not the best punishment. I will try to look for better ways, or if someone offers a better proposal.
This will also teach discipline. It is not all about learning to play. It is a privilege to. For one not to play, it is a nightmare. [At least to me.] Already, a few of my students walked up to me and "beg" me for lessons. "Are your grades better? Then no." It is not always a punishment for them but for me also. This is time spent on how to improve myself through them. So it is not always about them.
On the positive note, I don't have many students who are doing badly. Two of the five, are doing poorly but it is not bad. More than 50%. If it gets any worse, obviously, I will need to find a new set of students who are willing to be disciplined enough to know that this is a privilege.

In a School far, far away...

The 1st thing we have to analyze before starting this journey is how to start it and who is my audience. The people I would like to reach out are the older students. They are being fitted to go out into the world. I just want a shot at them to try to instill a certain value into them: "The point of my lessons is to not only show people how to play but to encourage them to explore other factors that are in the world. In other words, 'Go outside and do something!'" More on this could be said on my previous blog. The fact that older people have more of an attention span and discipline to learn is easier on me and the my student. The more controlled they are, the more controlled I am about not losing control. Confusing, right?
Now how do I start it? How many people can I help? Certainly, I can put up signs around campus that "Free Drum Lessons." Of course, this would scream out: "Need Any Help Learning an Instrument? Come look for me and I will show you how to play in 10 easy seconds." My malicious advertisement ploy to attract my victims. As for the ladder question, I can only teach no more that 5 students since my schedule is all booked.

Hear my roar 1st roar
Alright, it is the bottom of the ninth and we have two outs. I have two strikes and I don't think I will hit the ball. I close my eyes as the pitchers throw the ball to me. Now what does this have to do with anything with music? Nothing at all; that's what.
Now that I have my eccentric side out of the way, I like to begin by saying that music is important. We incorporate it in our lives everyday. When we hear the noise of a crowd or the clatter of dishes, is that really noise or potential musicals? Possibly both, depending on who you talk to.
Mostly, it is important to learn how to play this type of "music." Why? Is it because I say so? Not really. It is an essential skill that everyone develops. To think of it in other terms, imagine yourself with a new schedule. You find yourself lost at first but then you get the "rhythm" of your schedule. Which is why a music talent, more specifically: drums which teach rhythm is important. But my golden rule is:
I want to show that there is talent and potential out there in the world. All one has to do is look for it and work on it. I want to encourage people who have nothing else to do or are bored to experience a new skill they may not even have. This experience and opportunity can help one grow and hopefully write musicals.
