The Set Up

I have been meaning to point out the 1st set up of my students. There are differences in where they like to angle the cymbal or the way they place a snare as shown by the two pictures. The start is not only an important part of development but also shows the change in one's set. Just as one changes from being Liberal to Socialist. How did one get from point A to point B. Obviously, these set ups are going to change. They may move a couple things but nothing major since they seem comfortable playing as is. Once one realizes that it is a long journey they have experienced, they will be glad they have had lessons. It is like a sense of seeing a yearbook 20 years after one graduates. The feeling that one receives is special. Special in the fact that they are glad they did it and want to do other things. This effect is what I'm trying to get at. Once I started playing drums and got the sense of it, I wanted to learn other things and in fact, I am learning the piano. The effects and magnitude of it!

  1. Very interesting. Good use of photos. Maybe you could tell us more about the positioning and the choices made by your students.
